Out of print since it was first released in 2007, "Birmingham Rails, The Last Golden Era" is now back in print in softcover with all digitally remastered content.

The award-winning history focuses on Birmingham's extensive railroad district in the post-World War II era, during the transition from steam to colorful diesel motive power. Twelve chapters cover the history and operations of every Class I, industrial, and short line railroad in the Birmingham District. Informative and entertaining commentary by veteran railroaders relate first-hand what is was like to work for the railroad during a time of great change in the industry.

A retrospective "before and after" section illustrates the dramatic changes to the district's railroad landscape over five decades. Rounding out the content, a series of detailed maps  illustrate the extensive rail network that once served Birmingham's bustling manufacturing and mining industries.

The reprint contains all 280 pages of original content, including more than 400 digitally remastered color and black & white images providing sharper detail and color depth. Printed on heavy coated gloss paper bound in a laminated softcover, a very limited number of copies are available for $69.00 with free first class shipping.
